How One Simple Witch Hat Sparked a Magical Family Tradition

Born during a time when we all needed a little extra magic, The Whispering Witch became a source of joy, connection, and gentle guidance.

The Whispering Witch began as a heartfelt family tradition during the 2020 pandemic. In a time of uncertainty, I searched for a creative way to lift my children’s spirits, encourage positive behaviour, give them something to look forward to, and create lasting memories. What began with simple notes and playful surprises soon evolved. As my daughter grew, I began using “magical money” to celebrate her moments of kindness, effort, and positivity. It was a fun and effective way to motivate her, teach the value of earning, and make it all feel like a game.

What started as a few fun surprises quickly grew into a full-blown Halloween tradition, with a complete system including Boo Bux (magical money), Spooky Specials (reward coupons), Magic Minutes (trick-or-treating time tokens) and Enchanted Earnables (collectible badges). Over the years, it’s helped my kids develop powerful soft skills, without pressure or punishment.

Now, The Whispering Witch has become a tradition we look forward to every fall, and I’m so excited to share it with families everywhere.

The Sneaky Minis are the Whispering Witch’s tiny helpers, like Santa’s elves, but for Halloween! They sneak around at night (or sometimes during the day) to leave Boo Bux, hide coupons or treats, and play silly tricks under the Magic Hat. Kids can’t wait to find the Hat and discover what’s waiting underneath. They’re kind, clever, and always watching for little moments of goodness.
